The story of Grace Hopper (aka Amazing Grace)

I’m a big fan of Grace Hopper and I wanted to pay tribute to this rarely recognized pioneer. She always fought the status quo and the people that love to say “We’ve always done it this way”.

I hope you find her story, illustrated in this comic, as motivating as I do.

Imagine – John Lennon

Imagine - John Lennon (Pablo Stanley Art)

I finally colored this comic 🙂
You can buy a print in the form below.
Disclaimer:

  • This is NOT an anti-religion/atheist-propaganda comic. The comic and the song (at least as I understand it) tries to communicate that no matter your faith, we should all share the world in peace… As silly as that sounds.
  • Yes, MLK, Gandhi and Marley were spiritual people. Read point one 🙂
  • This is NOT an antisemitic comic. The Israeli soldier is breaking the cycle of war to play some football. Come on!
  • That is Anna Politkovskaya, an awesome Russian journalist, writer and activist.
  • Yes, John Lennon probably was a douche wife-beater, but still, “Imagine” transcends the unpleasant facts about its composer.

You can see the original comic in black and white + some colors here.

Internships

Expectations VS Realities of internships

I’m not saying all internships are bad but, unfortunately, a lot of them are just rip-offs. Specially on big ‘cool’ companies where there are plenty of eager aspirants waiting for the chance to take your position. You get on an unpaid internship thinking of the experience you would receive and how it would help you land a good job in the future. Instead you end up doing chores that have no learning value like picking up coffee and other stuff that the company would otherwise have to pay someone for.

Do you have any internship horror stories, or maybe a good experience you would like to talk about? Share on the comments!

Atheism vs Theism vs Agnosticism vs Gnosticism. A simple guide to know what the hell you are.

Atheist VS Agnostic. A simple guide to know what the hell you are.

There is always confusion on knowing what belief position we have. Atheist? Agnostic? Theist? Gnostic? I found a guide online and I thought I could improve it by adding characters and make it a bit friendlier. Now you can know what the hell you are. That’s, of course, if you believe in hell… or know there is a hell… Or believe in hell, but don’t really know… Oh, God, I give up.

EDIT: For more in-depth analysis about this, you can check out this article by John S. Wilkins.

Life and Donuts

Life and Donuts

The responses to the question “If we all end up dying, what’s the purpose of living?” on Quora inspired me to write this comic. The consensus was that at the end, to the universe we’re no more important than a rock. We’re so tiny that trying to find a meaning for our lives seems even arrogant, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it. You eat a donut (or a cake, like Quora suggested), and enjoy it without worrying that you’ll finish it in a few bites.

Halloween costumes for programmers (and IT people)

halloween Costumes For Programmers

I started working on a design project with the guys from koding.com and we had the idea of a comic with halloween costumes that only programmers, IT guys or web developers would get… so I came up with this cheesy strip.

By the way, if you’re a web designer, developer, programmer (or all of the above), you should totally check their stuff. They give you a free Virtual Machine with EVERY programming language pre-installed so you can play around or create something awesome: koding.com

Anna and Toby – 02

This is the second part of Anna and Toby. You can read the first part here.

This is the second half of the first episode of Anna and Toby. A comic about two best friends that find themselves by chance and help each other against a hostile world. My first try at a story that doesn’t have a punch line and isn’t just ‘funny’. I really hope you like it. You can read the first episode here.

The next episodes will be featured on Web Toon Live every Monday.

DISCLAIMER:
This is NOT an advert for Bioshock. Although, Irrational Games, if you wanna chip in some cash, I’m down.

The search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence

et-intelligence

When I was young, I was fascinated with the idea of E.T. intelligence; worlds of creatures like us, up there, wondering about the same. How would their thinking be like? What would they look like? Is their technology better than us? Do they have ‘gods’ like us?… I was also a bit of a UFO nut, I recorded VHS videos of different sightings and I do presentations to my classroom about it. Needless to say, they thought I was crazy. In a sense, there’s still that poster from Agent Mulder hung in my head; “I want to believe”.
